Open-Source Licences

The Klipprr desktop app ships with a few independent open-source programs that it runs to read, download and cut video. They are separate programs, not part of Klipprr’s own code, and each remains under its own licence. We are grateful to the people who build them.

1. FFmpeg and FFprobe

Used to inspect, cut and convert video and audio. We compile them ourselves from the unmodified official sources, together with the x264 video encoder, the dav1d AV1 decoder and the LAME MP3 encoder. The build is configured with --enable-gpl and --enable-version3, which places the binaries as distributed under the GNU General Public License, version 3. A copy of that licence ships inside the app next to the binaries. Klipprr 0.1.28 and earlier bundled the builds published at evermeet.cx/ffmpeg, which also include the x265 encoder, under the same licence.

2. yt-dlp

Used to read video information and fetch media from the address you paste. yt-dlp is released into the public domain under The Unlicense. Source code: github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp.

3. Getting the exact source code

For at least three years after we last distribute a given version of the app, we will provide the complete corresponding source code of any GPL-licensed program bundled in it, for no more than the cost of delivering it to you. Email hello@klipprr.com with the subject “Source code request” and the Klipprr version you have (shown in the app). This offer is open to anyone who has a copy of the app.

4. Your rights

Nothing in the Klipprr Terms of Service limits the rights these licences give you over the programs they cover. You may use, study, copy, modify and share those programs on the terms of their own licences.
